Question: How Can I Improve My Search Hits?

I have written about "The Long Tail" recently on the other Ask Jason blogs, so I won't repeat that content here. Instead I will point out a simple and hopefully obvious technique to improve traffic to your site: Archiving. The more pages you have indexed on Google (and other search engines -- are there any others?), the more hits your site will have. To achieve this, make sure that your content is archived and indexed as much as possible. On this blog (and all my others) each post is archive with both its own page and in the monthly archive page. So as the number of posts increase, the number of Google indexed pages will increase too. 1000 posts later, I will have more than 1000 pages archived in Google. More pages mean more hits -- now just work on your site's PageRank to make sure those hits show up early enough!
